Micro SD Card Failing?

Hi everyone. Anyway, my Lumia 640 on release preview did a sudden restart while installing apps and now asks for an sd card scan every time I turn it on. However it scans and doesn't do anything and makes it unusable till i restart the phone and chose not to scan it. Keep in mind I would let it scan for HOURS and nothing would happen. Now when I take the card out and use chkdsk f/ it comes up with "an error occured while examing the volume bitmap". Any help? I'd hate to have to resort to formatting or resetting my phone. Using a sandisk class 10 micro sd that I got from Amazon.

I have seen some branded microSD cards fail randomly due to no reason. You can try connecting the SD card to your Windows machine and try formatting with diskpart commands.

Instructions.

Tried that to no avail. I tried formatting the normal way through file explorer and going into properties to do quick format which failed right away as well with unchecking quick format. Bummer. I might have to gutsy up and buy a new card and hope for the best. this one was direct from amazon but I believe it was certified refurbished or used. Brand new might be my route this time

Buying a new card will not solve the problem as I have been through 3 cards already. I think the root cause is photos and Maps. They some how seem to corrupt the SD card while trying to write on to it. For now, the best option is to store photos locally and use SD card only for light read/write stuff like few apps and documents.

What kind of sd cards and brands did you try?

I had that problem with my kingston 8Gb class 10 about 6 months ago. Had to buy a new one and bought a Samsung 32 Gb UHS1. No more problems since then.

I so far have only used sandisk and one generic one that turned out to be fake. I use a 64gb Samsung for a different device and it seems good so far for it. I've had success with SanDisk before up until this card giving out on me. I might've got what I paid for though since it was "refurbished" I believe.

I would go that route but being that I'm on a 640 with limited internal space I rely heavily on more storage for my games and music mostly. I do plan on upgrading to a Lumia 950 in the not too distant future.
