Picked up a 950 XL last Saturday @ $299 and so far it has been an excellent device on the latest public build release .

Not experiencing any overheating issues that I have read about with the XL in particular.

I bought two 950XLs last year. One pre-ordered at B&M and picked up the day before Thanksgiving and one on-line that arrived a few days after that. But I had already decided to return them both before that one ever arrived because of how bad W10 was on the first one.

Now that W10 is okay, at least on my 1520.3 and family members' L640s, I picked up my 3rd 950XL today $285 with veteran's discount. Hoping 3rd time's a charm ;) The web site said they only had white at this store but they had a black one and I chose that. I'm going to order a Mozo back cover so color on the factory cover doesn't matter much.

I'm not sure I'll like it better than my 1520.3; I know from before I don't like the smaller screen as much but I do like phones with removable backs or I guess more accurately really dislike SIM and SD trays and am slightly annoyed by batteries owners can't easily change. I only bought this phone because my wife's L640 is on its last legs. She suggested I get a new phone and she take my 1520.3 and I asked her if she would mind if I kept the 1520.3 and she got the 950XL if I didn't like it as much and she agreed.

Hope everything works well for you and the phone at the end of the day! W10M has improved massively over the course of it's development, and generally speaking, most users of the 950XL agrees that the problems that plagued the early days of the platform and the phone are now a thing of the past. Only a minor few still face bugs here and there, but it is not that common anymore.

Good luck!

Thanks. The only issues I'm not fairly certain have been fixed are Visual Voicemail and Hello.

Hello could recognize my eyes zero percent with glasses on and about 20% of the time with them off. I am not expecting that to be fixed but will be pleasantly surprised if it is. I can live without Hello.

Visual Voicemail didn't work in the beginning because there wasn't coding for it with dual SIM phones. That I REALLY hope has been fixed (at least if you only use one SIM) because I would rather not use 3rd party VoiceMail services.

Visual voicemail is just fine. Used it like a charm on the 950 I owned, with T-Mobile.

Have you tried training Hello with your glasses on? Most people here claimed that the Iris Scan does work with sunglasses and even normal glasses. All you have to do is train it.

IIRC, they say that when setting up Hello for the first time, just let it scan your eyes under normal lighting conditions. Then train Hello to recognize your eyes in a dark environment, and repeat both the above (normal and dark lighting conditions) with increased distance between your phone and your eyes. This makes it 4 times of training Hello without any eyewear. Only after these 4 scans do you repeat all the above, BUT WITH YOUR EYE WEAR ON.

I'm not sure how effective this would be since I'm not using glasses myself, but the first 4 steps where you scan in different lighting conditions and at varying distances certainly helped in making Hello scan your eyes faster. At least it's true for me. YMMV.

Since I wear glasses, I attempted to train with them on first.

But Hello is even worse on this new 950XL than it was on the one I got in November 2015 and returned. This new one can't even recognize my eye in training without glasses.

As I said, I didn't expect it to actually work. I wasn't counting on it.

Ah, I see. Too bad, then. Welp, I do hope you enjoy your 950XL despite this setback.
