Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer says Xbox Game Pass helps smaller, single-player games: "They just want to tell their story.

One complaint I've seen about Game Pass is that it'll lead to more live service and Microtransaction heavy games. Instead here Phil Spencer is saying that it allows for single player games and smaller scope games. I don't think we can really say which is true without a time machine, but Xbox as a publisher is putting out more single player games than ever and supporting more multiplayer Microtransaction heavy games than ever. So yeah... I can see both sides. Game Pass either spreads the wealth and takes pressure off the games that pull in less money now or it lowers the value of each overall game and makes it so a publisher has to make it up through more Microtransactions. I'm hardly Microsoft and I'm hardly doing their Financials. If Phil Spencer is publicly directly stating one and not the other, then I'll go with that it supports single player and more variety in games because it'd be illegal for Phil to lie outright about this type of stuff.
