As a non-American, I have to say that the fact that a presidential inauguration fund that can be donated to even exists in the first place is yet another black mark against the American political system.

Would you rather taxpayers pay? Whether they approve of the politician or not?
This approach makes it voluntary.
If you despise the dude, you at least know it's not your stolen money paying for the party.

I'm not American so it wouldn't be my tax dollars anyway but, in principle yes, I would prefer that. The inauguration of a president shouldn't be such a grand affair that that is a problem. It's something that happens every four years as a matter of course, so it should not be such a big deal. It's not like a new monarch being coronated after the death of their parent who reigned for 50 years. I don't think there should even be a crowd for anyone to boast about the size of and there should be no foreign dignitaries or the like.
