Bought a new Lumia 550, unboxed it.
Now since it is a new phone, the store had around 38 app updates. I kept the apps for updating and simultaneously checked if there were any phone updates.
update was available (10.0.10586.494).

I checked the phone after 2 hours or so to see the progress of download.
surprisingly the phone update was stuck at 0% and not a single app was updated.
Next, i paused all the apps from the store.
Again checked the phone after 3 hours to see if there was any progress in the phone update; luckily the phone showed 9% download completed.
The data usage was around 42 MB so i decided to RESET the phone.
Did the reset and again kept the phone overnight for updating.
unfortunately when i checked the phone in the morning; The phone update was stuck at 0%.

Note: While updating the phone, SIM card was not inserted.
My broadband is 512kbps which is very slow.

Kindly advise.

You answered yourself

Go into a free wifi area, etc, stay there some hour, and make all updates you need, there are almost half a gig or more of data.

Resetting could get worser the situation, considering phone must update all his core apps togheter now.
Stay in wifi areas and be patient

I know the update is around 1GB and hence i kept the phone overnight for updating but even after that the phone was stuck at 0%.
Now i did a reset again and currently updating the apps one by one. Updated the "store app" first.
Apps seems to be getting updated faster now.Once all the apps has been updated successfully i would proceed with the Phone update.
I will keep u'll posted.
Thanks

Hi Raviraj - I also have a 550 and have decent broadband speeds (4 mbps - 40 mbps range) - my device also took VERY long to update (the entire day) to the latest xxx.494 stable version. I just left it on charger in the update screen where it was stuck at 0% for long time, I kept watching it through the day it eventually updated :)

So two things to keep in mind - leave it connected to charger and hopefully your 512kbps broadband is stable enough - it will also eventually get updated.

Finally the phone has been updated to XX.494.
@vishalrao thanks :) but i had already connected the phone to the charger for the whole night.(Phone doesn't update if the battery % is less than 40%)
Two things to keep in mind:
1. Better internet connectivity is needed for the update process as the update is huge.
2. Update the store first and the core apps in the store and than proceed with the update.
Do not update apps and download FOTA simultaneously.
thanks everyone for the response.
Peace.
