Microsoft should release a 12" Surface

So now people are comparing 12.9" iPad Pro against 12" Surface Pro 3.

We all know that even Surface 3 technically knockouts iPad Pro except that Surface 3 has only 10.8" screen.

So Microsoft should release a Surface (Surface 4) with 12" screen - same resolution, same CPU, etc. My rough guess is such a 12" Surface costs ~$100 more, i.e. $599, which is way cheaper than iPad Pro $799.

It is not important how many people will buy this device. It solely proves to people (who are not as knowledgeable as us on tablets) that iPad Pro is under-performed and over-priced.

We don't need the elder brother to fight against a little creature. The younger brother can beat it...

If I wanted a 12" tablet, I would have bought the Pro. It doesn't make any sense to go laptop size. Just to prove a point.

So iPadPro and Surface Pro make sense to be 12", while Surface does not make sense to be 12"?

And I don't agree that 12" is a standard "laptop size". It is somewhere between a traditional laptop and a tablet.

Can't understand your rationale.

Can you point out what exactly the problem of a 12" Surface is, if the user only wants to do basic tasks like Office & web surfing? I see there is big potential for a 12" Surface.

Cost-benefit.

There's already a 12" Surface. That's the Pro model.

Making a 12" non-Pro model won't do much for the market at all. It'll be an awkward addition to the lineup and might not fit in well.

What's the point of Apple making an 12" iPad Pro and normal iPad?

I understand that Microsoft may want to keep its product lines as simple as possible.

Many would agree that 12" is a perfectly optimum for portability and usability. I heard that quite many people like Surface 3 but the 10.8" screen is too small to work comfortably. Indeed, the majority of users do not need so much horse power. Surface Pro is great but its relatively high price has discouraged quite many potential users from buying it.

It is not too abnormal to offer two specs for the same screen size, e.g. Dell, HP, they offer two specs for a same-sized laptop.

My point is, 12" is a sweet spot and the hardware specs of Surface satisfy the majority of users. So why not.

No, the two sizes are really good and differentiable in terms of size and power. If they want to go to 15" as an extra suze, that is another discussion.

The problem with a 12" Surface 3 is that it won't fit in my backpack. If I wanted a 12" tab, I would have bought the PRO. If the Surface 3 was 12" why would I buy it? I would go with the more powerful Pro version. The 10" is easier to handle, maneuver and work with. A 12" Tab is similar to an "All-in-one" I have used one of those. And a 12" laptop/netbook is the right portable size, but too big to be considered a tab. I have a 17" laptop and would not to carry it around.

Well, i think for many people the reason to go for the 3 instead of the Pro 3 other than portability could include the fact that it is less expensive, and some people might not need as much power as the Core powered Surface Pro

Hmm doesn't the Pro 3 come with the pen and keyboard? Where as the Surface 3 doesn't and has to be bought... Might be nearly the same cost...

I used to be brainwashed by people that Apple products are **** and are overpriced. To be honest when I actually saw one and used one I can say they are pretty good and hardware is super nice, especially the display and I'd take it over any Windows PC. OS X is pain in the *** for me thought I'm sure I'd get used to it.

So my comment on that new iPad Pro.. Thinner, beautiful display, more battery, enough Tablet apps in the Store that can work just as good as on desktop. Windows Store is useless at the time and desktop apps are just not as comfortable.

Only issue here is that hilarious 32GB of memory.

So yes I'd understand why would anyone with money buy it. And after all, people want to use their tablet as a tablet after all. They all have PCs.

And let's not forget how the Surface is not even available anywhere.

And running Photoshop and AutoCAD and so on.. on a tablet.. Good luck with that. Tablet apps are actually pretty more useful.

The Surface Pro does not come with the keyboard, and I the pen is around $50 for the regular 3, so the regular 3 with a pen will run you around $550 while the i3 Pro 3 including a pen starts at $799

Good lord, who wants to run those on any tablet?

Those who says that with Surface you can use them and with iOS not..

OK, but the 10" is what attracted me to the Surface 3. If they had made it a 12" instead, I would not have bought it, I would have went with Dell or another brand.

In bold: How do we know? Have you used one? Are we talking every scenario or specific ones?
In italics: I take it you've used an iPad Pro and know the performance? But I thought it didn't come out until November...

Answer is simple. iPadPro runs iOS. Period.

Anybody who needs to resolve an onsite design issue. As far as I know, there aren't any battery powered desktops on the market and portable generators aren't so portable.

And? I know you have a point here, you have to.

Anything that runs a limited-feature operating system (i.e, iOS, Android, WinRT) is handicapped when compared to the capability of a full-feature operation system (i.e., Windows, OSX, Linux, etc.) The point is simply that iOS is not as capable or powerful as full Windows.

If Apple really wanted to take the fight to Surface line, they should have put OSX on it. Then, you would have a fight. They didn't, so the iPad Pro ended up only being a glorified, more expensive iToy...with the option to purchase a stylus (Steve Jobs must love that) and a keyboard cover a la Surface.
