Might switch OS, need help.

Thanks everyone for the help. I have found that when my brother creates events in the Outlook App in our calendar it shows up on my lock screen and notifies me. But it doesn't vice versa. So, on that note I have a different question. My friend is willing to let me borrow his old LG G something phone.

Would I be able to take my friends old phone that is not on any network, only use wifi and test out the mail apps myself? Or do I need to activate it on a carrier? Also do I need to create a gmail account for this, or can I use my hotmail for it?

EDIT: I had a Samsung Galaxy S1, and I thought that thing was a piece of crap, I switched to WP after that and I have played with my friends S3, Nexus, Razrs, and a few others. When I switched I got HTC 8X and, then I got the HTC M8, and I love their phones, so I will probably get the HTC 10 when I switch.

You would have to make a Google account first (doesn't require making a gmail one) and just use your MS email to create the account. Yes you would be able to test it on wifi. No activation required.

Edit: N_LaRUE has a great point. For me, I find it to be easier to connect them since I change platforms at the flip of a hat (or whatever the saying is). It's up to you really. Every once in a while, I might switch and I prefer to have my contacts and numbers move with me.

You can still connect your MS account to the phone to get your contacts etc.

Just not as the main account.

You can sync them to your Google account after that if you wish.

If you have issues you can always export the contacts from outlook as a file and import them into Gmail.

Lots of ways to get around things.

I didn't know that, thanks for letting me know.

In my case, I'm fine with it being the main account. I learned that from the way Paul Thurrott did it originally, and I find it easier for me. I don't even use the Mail app on my iPhone, or even the apple id. The apple id is only used for the App Store because I have no choice there. My MS account is there too, as primary.

Trying to remember what OS I have for what email/account for is something I'll rather not bother with. I occasionally have to add contacts to my Outlook account sometimes.

I for one like the Microsoft apps on the Android platform (I use an Android tablet). I use Bing, MSN (News/Weather/Sports/Money), One Drive, One Note, Office Lens & Outlook (for hotmail and access to my hotmail calendar, and also work's Office 365). On thing I hate about Outlook's calendar on android is the earliest you can set a reminder for something is 1 hour, I am able to work around that by changing it on a desktop computer or my Windows Phone.
