More that one reminder for appointments in calendar?

On my iPhone I could set a reminder for an appointment on my calendar for the day before AND a second reminder, say the day of, an appointment. My Lumia 1020 only allows me to set one reminder. My friend's android phone allows for multiple reminders. What was Microsoft thinking and is there a work around for this issue?

You can set a reminder for the prev day and when it blows up, you can snooze it for a time period, including snooze by a day.

If you are using a Google Calendar, when you create the appointment, you can add multiple reminders.
If you are using Outlook or Hotmail, when you create the appointment you can add multiple reminders.

If you didn't add multiple reminders from the source calendar, you can always snooze the reminder when it pops up on your phone.

I have always used multiple reminders in my Outlook but they are not carrying over to the Lumia. Having used iPhones since their launch, I was prepared for there to be a learning curve but I can't figure this one out!
