Is it possible that all this has to do with the distance of the user's month from the top of the phone where the noise cancelling mic is?
My theory is that if the user's mouth is far enough away from the top mic, the voice is not picked up by the top mic and therefore is not "canceled" or muffled.
If this is the case, people that have big arse heads (like me) don't have the issue because their mouths are farther away from the top mic.
Wee Bear: do you have a big arse head?
