Music on SD card

Is the only way to play music from my memory card or do I have to upload it to OneDrive and play from there?
Maybe I'm not quite understanding Groove music?(or maybe I am and not happy with it)
I appreciate any help

From the groove app, just select the down arrow, and there should be an option to play "from this device"....or "on phone".

music in you "Music" folder on your sd card should come up too. I have a few albums there and have zero issue with groove seeing them.

Thank you for the help, you're right.
Now my issue is, transferring folders over, on CPU they're in individual, named folders on phone they go into "unknown artist" any help there?

proper names and tags on the files go a long way.

search for mp3 ID3 or mp3 ID tags.

My music hasn't had an issue yet, and I have fixed or modified bad tags over the years.
