I had started looking for a phone in july, and i was making my own money because my parents told me if i wanted a phone i like i would have to buy it myself. I wanted an iPhone, but of course with the amount of money i was getting that was not gonna happen, i also had to pay half of my phone bill for the whole school year so iPhone was definitely out unless i wanted some lame iPhone 3GS. I first started at looking at a few android phones and i was almost ready to buy one, and while searching eBay i set my eyes on the first windows phone i ever saw, and it looked amazing. i started looking at windows phone 7 phones because they were in my price range, and i eventually found a great deal on a windows phone 8. It was a red Nokia Lumia 822, and i bought it for $130 for a great deal on eBay. I have now had the phone for 2 months and decided to write a review comparing it to my iOS experience. I will review each category and state which i liked better for each OS.
Customization:
Windows Phone wins this one in my opinion. I love that i can freely change the color of tiles and put them in different places. Unlike iOS i can just put a tile in the middle of the screen because i want to. I like the ability to change tile sizes because i can change it by what matter most to me. I love listening to music and messaging so those are close to the top of the screen and both are double wide. The live tiles are amazing and i love that i can see quick status on the tile for messaging since i have it double wide. iOS has a nice warming home screen, but i feel that windows phone has much more customization. I can put a single small tile on each row just because i want to and there are few limitations.
Music:
This one was close, i think i should say it is a tie. On iOS the headphone volume seems to go much higher, but on windows phone it just doesn't go very loud. iOS also wins because when buying music the music store looks much more attractive and easier to find what you are looking for. It is very hard to find differences between explicit and clean songs. In itunes there is a red E stamp for explicit, but it isn't like that on windows phone. Much easier to create a playlist just tap new and add your songs. Also, iOS it is much easier to download music to from computer to my device by using iTunes, and it was super easy to get free music by downloading it on computer and transferring to my iOS device. What i do like about windows phone music is the live tile i love how when im listening to music the tile changes and has a design. It looks beautiful to me. I also love how i can pin my favorite artists and albums to my home screen. I don't like the playlists because it is very hard to set up.
Games/Apps
iOS of course wins this one. They have way more games and apps than windows phone and they don't have to wait as long for apps to come out. Windows Phone lacks games and apps, but hopefully they will soon catch up. I do like that i can pin my favorite games to the start screen, and i have a notes app that allows me to pin notes to the start screen and it helps me keep track of homework.
For now this is all the topics i have thought of, i will update it soon with more. I will probably also post this to iMore as well.
