My Device Is Not Supported, Now What?

Ok, I'm over it, my HTC One M8 is not going to be supported by my wonderful carrier, nor HTC, what about Microsoft?

Help me to understand correctly, I have upgraded using the Insider Preview and am currently on release 10586.164 are there to be no more insider releases? Should I uninstall the Insider App and just use it as it is? I most certainly will not roll back to 8.1.

Is Microsoft only releasing updates now and going forward to supported devices or devices sold with W10M now known as build 14291.xxxx?

It appears according to that linked release from Microsoft that there will be no more insider releases for unsupported devices.
This seems to indicate that there may be some superficial releases that may be available.

A: If you already have the Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview build on your device, you may keep using your device in an unsupported state. We will not be offering build updates beyond the Current Branch build 10586. At some point in the future these devices will also stop receiving updates to the Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview build.

It is too bad that Microsoft didn't support more non-Lumia devices except for the two Blu and MCJ phones, I have 8 PC's running windows and not one is a Microsoft product. I don't think I would be wrong to speculate that by and large Windows is mostly running on non-Microsoft hardware. I suppose phones are a different animal anyway.

I gave up. My 520 was suffering more and more crash during intense use.
It will work with in future if someone in far east will follow the root working. Maybe with a cyanomod, who knows.
I took a 650.

Can't blame MS for 3rd party devices not being on insider, a requirement is that the OEM provides the OS image to MS to go on to the WDRT Servers for restoration purposes. Very few did, hence the Lumia centric nature of the insider program.

3rd party? Seems the OEM may be 2nd party (MS to HTC, who's 3rd?)

My point in mentioning it is that Microsoft is and has been BY FAR in equipment built by others, IE Dell, HP, ASUS, etc.
The point I was trying to elucidate is that seeing as Microsoft's ride to power and success has almost always been in someone else's chassis, I would think they wouldn't be so quick to forget.........If Microsoft was to survive only on the equipment they manufacture and distribute they would die a fast death IMO.
I read that it was 40 years after Gates founded the company that it produced it's first laptop. My father owned a salvage yard and did not believe it was good business to have a repair shop in his company because his livelihood depended upon the success of other repair shops that he supplied automotive parts to, I guess I am just old school.

However, my point remains. If OEMs do not provide a recovery image to Microsoft for the Windows Device Recovery Tool, then there is no way to recover a device from a failed upgrade and so the device is borked. Permanently. Samsung did not provide an image for the ATIV, so no Insider program. HTC likewise. BLU, Alcatel and Xiaomi did so their devices got added along with the Lumias. If the new W10M devices (E.g. the Acers, VAIO Phone Biz, HP Elite X3) don't have images supplied to MS then they also can't register for insider builds, they are stuck on the production ring.

I see what you mean, thanks. So I ought to write HTC and tell them hold up their end of the deal, the M8 was sold as a flagship seeing as it was so heavy in hardware. This is multiple HTC's I've had, no more.
