My Lumia 640 phone deleted my address book & calendar. How do I get it back?

Phone can't update to Windows 10 because it's too old and not enough memory. I bought a new phone but don't want to activate it until I get my contacts back. The phone won't sync with the Microsoft or Google accounts. I've checked and my contacts are still in Microsoft, but phone still won't sync with them.
