need help - how many channels of communication

Does anyone know how many channels of communication a phone has? Its an assignment question and I'm real confused

I think it means communication as text messaging, calling, sending emails, social networks etc that sort of stuff.

If you ask your tutor/teacher they would properly give you an example or explain better.
