Ok, for the past several days now I have been trying to figure out if I can activate a Nokia Lumia 520 out of the box on my Straight Talk service. I spoke with several representatives at straight talk and they keep saying that I have to unlock the phone to use it on straight talk. I have seen several posts on blog site with people activating it on straight talk. Are they giving me a run around or is it true, it cannot be activated????

Moved to Carrier Discussion Lounge.

Do you have an AT&T or a T-Mobile SIM from Straight Talk?

No I currently do not. The place I go to order it says "Unlocked Phone" activation kit. I haven't bought the phone yet. I don't want to be out $100 if it doesn't work...

If you get the AT&T 520, you will need to have an AT&T Straight Talk SIM. It won't work with a T-Mobile SIM unless it is unlocked.

I asked the people at Straight talk if the AT&T sim card would work and they said that it would have to be unlocked. I found that strange when it says on their site that all you need is a compatible GSM phone...

Putting it simple, I know that I need to have the AT&T compatible sim card. What I'm not understanding is they are saying it needs to be unlocked, and I am seeing people connect their Lumia 520's to straight without an unlock.

If you get an AT&T 520 and an AT&T Straight Talk SIM card, the phone does not have to be unlocked. It will work just fine!

It's good to know that it can work. I've been looking into a windows phone for a long time and now's my chance. Thanks guys.
