I set my phone (Lumia 920) up with my old Windows Live account associated with my 360 (still using, Xbox Live gamertag still associated with this acct), which was created with my Gmaill account. My Live username is my gmail account.

I subsequently bought quite a few Windows phone apps on this account over the past week, and maybe did a few other things over the course of messing with/setting up/customizing my new phone over the past week that might make switching accounts on my phone a hassle (?).

I am interested in moving over entirely to the Microsoft ecosystem, including an Outlook email. I can log into Outlook.com with my gmail Live ID, and it shows an inbox, but I am not even sure what the current email address associated with that account is (if I have one).

I went into the Live account to try to change my username (my gmail address), but it doesn't seem possible. I also just linked a newly created hotmail account to my previous Live account (gmail), in hopes of phasing out the Gmail side of it, but, no dice.

Any help?

The "rename" feature for your Microsoft Account (and specifically when moving FROM a gmail account) has been temporarily disabled. I read a post on a MS help forum that said the team is aware of some of the issues they were experiencing and they hope to have an update and have it back online soon. I'm looking to do the same thing, but for now we have to play the waiting game. If you want, you can always go to Outlook.com and set yourself up an alias for the time being. Your inbox and everything else will work like normal. There's a tutorial floating around here somewhere that shows you the steps to move your contacts and calendar over to outlook.com from Gmail as well.

EDIT: You won't be able to sign in to your MS account using an alias, so you still need to wait to make the full change, which will require a hard reset of your phone anyway.

Okay, I saw this WPC post about changing the Windows Live ID associated with your XBox Live account (which in turn transfers your Windows phone purchases as well, apparently) via your Xbox. I completed the process on the Xbox using my (hopeful) new Outlook account.

However, when I got to Windowsphone.com, my app store purchases are still listed on my old account, so I'm obviously hesitant to do a hard reset on my phone.

This worked rather perfectly (if you are fine with a hard reset on your phone). Thanks, WPC. I chatted with MS support, and they informed me that the Windows Phone purchases would in fact transfer over, but not immediately. I was able to rest my phone, and re-install all my apps/purchases within a few hours.
