No appropriate infraction level for re-posting the same thread

I wanted to give stewpeanut an infraction for posting this thread in three different forums. However, I don't believe he was doing so out of maliciousness and decided that a low level infraction would work. However, there doesn't seem to be a level that's appropriate. I decided to send him a PM warning instead.

Why issue an infraction? I'd just fix it and send him a PM explaining that re-posting clutters the forums.

Two days ago he posted it twice in two different forums so I deleted the duplicate. Then the original thread was answered (the OP even responded). After the original thread was answered he re-posted it a third time today. At that point I figured an infraction would be appropriate.

I guess what I'm saying is that if you don't think the double posting is malicious, why issue an infraction? Now if you've deleted duplicate posts, cautioned him not to do so, and he is still posting duplicate posts.... that's a different story.

I did send him a PM letting him know not to post triple threads and informed him that he can request to have a thread moved if he thinks it's in the wrong section. The reason I wanted to give the infraction was because he posted it twice, one thread was deleted, the other thread was answered, he responded to it, and then he posted it a third time. He never answered the PM but I can only assume that he wasn't satisfied with the answer given and decided to try it again somewhere else. I thought an infraction would send a more clear message but I didn't want to bring down the hammer either.

That sounds fair to me. I sent someone a PM when I deleted links to another site and told him not to post it anymore. The PM worked and no infractions were needed,

Always start with a PM and next time request a read receipt that way you know he read it. If that doesn't work you can make a custom infraction of any level. However I would start with a warning. With a custom infraction you set the points so if you set it to zero its basically a warning. Its best to note all of this in the infraction explanation PM that goes to the member.

One other option when something like this happens is to just keep merging the threads. That usually gets the message across when the OP sees 2 or 3 threads merged he will get the idea.
