white and probably black are matte.

I know for sure that white is matte.

Best color is subjective. I like green or orange.
Next guy might choose something less loud.

Black is matte. Matte is very slippery, I have a matte black and glossy orange cover and the orange cover is significantly better at sticking to my fingers when holding the phone in my hand without the pinky underneath it. Matte is very slippery, phone starts to slide out of my hand when I tilt my hand ever so slightly.
