nokia lumia 920 wont connect to pc

WPCentral Question

hi, im hoping someone can solve nokia's problems for them as nokia don't seem to give a dam. my Lumia 920 will not connect to my pc. its windows 8.1 and when I connect my phone it shows its charging but does nothing on my pc not even a sound. it doesn't show under devices etc. I have even paid Microsoft help and they say there is nothing wrong with the pc its the phone. it will connect to my friends pc but not mine and everything else I plug into my pc's usb works fine just not my phone. its as if I haven't connected and if I couldn't see it was charging id guess at the lead being broken. I have tried 3 other usb cables.
I had a nokia years ago and I stupidly thought they must have changed over the years but no, there still flakey heaps of crap with absolutely no help from nokia themselves. they don't seem to give a dam if there stuff works or not. hopefully they will go bust and no one else will suffer the mistake of being stuck with there phones for 2 years on contract. wont be making the mistake again.

Go to start screen, type administrative tools, open it, click computer management. Does it show the disk on this screen or the volume? If so, you can change it to add a drive letter and have the device show up. Otherwise try removing the drivers. Sometimes switching usb ports will help. Are you plugging in after your PC is turned on? You can try plugging in with it off then turning it on or vice versa. Also make sure you aren't using a hub to connect.
