Today, after my phone's battery came to 15 % i connected the phone to the charger and half an hour later the battery wasn't charged and it didn't even show the charging sign, and when i touched it around the area where i plug the cable it was very hot, and the metal part of the mini usb port on the charger was extremely hot. What is the problem and what should i do?
Thank you.

have you tried using another charger to see if the charger is the problem? also try a different outlet just to be safe. long shot I know, but stranger things have happened.

Though this will be a bit hard to do, in most cases this happend because of a deffective battery, so my suggestion is that you get another battery, if the it works, then you need a new battery or, if you still have warranty, go to your service center. About the over hitting, i also have the lumia 520, and when i was on gdr2/amber(i'm now in gdr3 developer preview/amber) my phone would overheat when 3g browsing, it stop it doing it when i updated, the culprit in this case is IE

I have the same problem with my 520. It's actually gotten so hot that it's melted around the port. I've tested it alot and it isn't the battery or the cable/outlet. I'm contacting Nokia about it this weekend.

The phone had 9% battery left so it worked fine, but it just wont charge. I tried to turn off and on but nothing happens. The problem stays.

Finally got it solved !!!
I have nokia Lumia 710, my mobile battery drained out while using GPS.
And mobile was not turning on at all, tried with typical wall charger, laptop USB port, but no luck.
I googled but not found solution but an workaround to buy new battery.

mean while I purchased an Battery Pack, ( Yell BPS19 ), to avoid such problem.
I thought to try connecting it with Lumia phone. and a wonder ......
After a 2 mins, mobile vibrated, and next 2 mins empty battery sign apperaed on mobile.
in next few minutes mobile got self power on. :).

It is worth trying with other batter packs also.
I am happy about it and like to keep all Lumia 710 mobile users. hope it helps.

I have noticed that sometimes the nokia phones hangs and if this happened before the battery ran out, chances are that it is still in hung state and It would not charge or start. I have been through the same scenario , what you need to do is to soft or hard reset your phone. I have Nokia Lumia 1020 and I have to do soft resets quite often. I tried doing soft reset while my phone was hung and drained . I pressed "Power" and "Volume Down" button together until it vibrates, which fixed my Issue. I hope this also helps you guys !!! good Luck !!!

If you have a case please remove it before charging the phone. anyway i always charge my phone with something below it to ensure ventilation and maybe a fan to keep it cool.

However it seems to me that the phone is indeed having some issues. Do get a replacement and keep us posted.

I find mine charges in about an hour, but then runs out of battery in about half a day. maybe the battery isn't fully charged when it says it is?

The problem is the battery you have to change it or put a piece of paper to prevent it of causing the over heating, if its to late the plastic inside the recharger plug would be melted because of the over heating , none of the recharger cable would fit in anymore , so you have to bait the start of the recharger to make it smaller to fit in.
