Nokia Corp. is pushing back the publicity launch of its first smart device since agreeing to sell its handset business to Microsoft Corp.MSFT -0.69%, but the company still plans to start selling the phones as initially scheduled, according to people familiar with the matter.
The new smartphone is expected to be sold in the Lumia line and run Microsoft Windows software.
The company declined to comment on the new product or timing of its launch on Tuesday.
The new smartphone will likely be bigger in dimensions than other devices in the current lineup and will carry camera technology developed by NokiaNOK1V.HE -1.22%.
Nokia had been planning to give the public its first glimpse of the new phone in September, but now the event is going to be scheduled for October, these people said.
This launch represents an important milestone for Nokia following the announcement that Microsoft will purchase Nokia’s handset business for more than $7 billion.
