Notifications wake up the phone screen even when the phone is in pocket or case. It wasn't the case

Using - Windows Phone 8, Lumia 720
Problem - Notifications wake-up the screen even when in case(or pocket).
**I am not talking about the glance feature

I observed this strange behaviour yesterday. Whatsapp notifications wake up the screen even when the phone is in the case.


Earlier the screen didn't use to wake up, i could hear only the notification sound. Only when u remove it from the case immediately after notification arrive, the screen turns on. If you don't remove it from the case, it never use to wake up the screen.
That was a feature, which used the proximity sensor.


Now this feature is gone. I recently updated to Amber, and I doubt this is due to glance feature.


Now every time a get a whatsapp message the screen wakes up.

I use the same phone, not on GDR 2 yet.
These things wake up the phone,
-A text message
-A whatsapp message (you hear the alert tone first and the screen wakes up after about 1-1.5 secs)

Things that do not wake up the phone
-An email

I have the L920 running Amber and a message notification from the Facebook Beta app also wakes up the screen.

I'm not sure whether I should like it:
pro:
it acts as the notification light I loved on my previous phone (Blackberry)
con:
it consumes unnecessary battery life

i have a flip cover
before i upgraded to Amber
my Lumia 720 didnt use to wake up on whatsapp notification...unless i flipp off the cover within 2-3 seconds of hearing the sound. This was an amazing feature. but now it seems to be gone.

i dont remember about email or sms as dont get that much of sms or email.

I think evrybodys getting me wrong...
My phone wakes up on sms and whatsapp notification both, don't know about email. It can be configured in Settings -> lock screen -> notifications.

The thing is when the flip cover is on it didn't used to wake up...i just hear a sound....it wakes up if i remove the flip off within 2-3 seconds of hearing the sound(or vibration).
This was an exceptional feature, which used proximity sensor to sense that if the phone is is pocket or in case...it doens need to wake and display....all you need is a sound. If you draw it out of your pocket or case...you can see it wake up. It also saved the battery.

But now this thing seems to be gone.

Users and readers please confirm whats the case with your phone.??

Has windows phone had that kind of feature??? I didn't know about that but I sure would want that. It consumes battery in vain when there is flip on the phone and it wakes up because of notifications.

yes it had that that feature....i loved it. If itry to google about it, all i get is articles on glance feature

That could be a problem while in your pocket. You could pocket dial :angry:

Well... It actually works on my phone but I just hadn't noticed that. Whatsapp messages and other notifications don't wake my screen when proximity sensor is blocked when I checked it.

can you please confirm whether it still works or not, i.e does having your phone's proximity sensor blocked the whatsapp or sms notifications don't wake up the screen, and vice versa.

As I said before it works fine even with Amber update.
