NUC vs Surface

Hi all, wanted done opinions on whether I should invest in a new Surface or a NUC.

Here's the scenario. I have a home office that gets light use, currently it has a old desktop running Win 10 TP and a dual monitor set up. I want to upgrade it. We usually use the office for work that consists primarily of SaaS apps and some heavy MS Office work.

I want to down size and clean up some of the accessory and cable mess. I've considered a NUC and a Surface with dock.

I like the NUC because it's small and can be hidden, and because it can run both monitors as is. Its also cheaper.

I like the Surface because it's sexy and could be a tablet that goes around the house with me. I've considered both Pro and regular, and I lean towards Pro primarily to future proof and to run heavy Excel stuff.

I currently have a touch enabled ultrabook that is the primary PC in the house that me and the GF share. It gets most of its use on the couch and in bed. We don't have a tablet.

What would you get? Money isn't the most important thing. If I get the NUC odds are good that I'd end up buying a iPad and/or a second laptop for myself (letting the GF use the current laptop exclusively) someday. How well does the Surface work as a desktop replacement? I already have 2 monitors, so having a third screen isn't that valuable, plus the regular Surface 3 can't drive 2 external monitors. But, getting rid of 1 monitor works with the plan to simplify the set up.

So, opinions?

Looks to me the NUC is more geared toward Media Center stuff (connected to a TV in the living room)...

I would go with a Surface 3 or 3 Pro.

NUCs rock as media pc's, but they're also awesome desktop replacements for office use.

Well, there you go.

The NUC just looks like a media PC to me. I'm sure it's fine as a desktop PC.

I have abandoned my desktop PC for the last couple of years for tablets. So, IMO I would go for the Surface.

Really, it's personal preference.

Yep, I can't roll them out fast enough. Once there's one in the office, everyone wants one. Grab the new version with built-in Wi-Fi/BT, a 250GB m.2 SATA disk and 8GB RAM, whack it on the back of a monitor, chuck their old midi tower away and await the applause.

Think there will be any limitations using a NUC to stream games from an XBone in full HD?

I wouldn't have thought so - the onboard gigabit NIC and a relatively decent graphics chip should ensure it's OK.
