OneDrive sync over lan?

I've recently restored my laptop to factory settings. I already have OneDrive installed on my desktop. Both computers are on the same lan.
If I install OneDrive in my laptop, will it sync the data from the internet or is it possible to get the data from my desktop?
My connection is not really fast, it will take a while to complete.

It will go over the internet. You should give feedback using the feedback app for lan sharing too. As more of this is done it makes good sense.

If in same Lan, just copy the files over your network to a folder on the laptop. Setup onedrive on the laptop and when asked change location to the folder you just copied them to. It will ask u to merge files and say yes. Done.
