I have a surface rt and this is probably a done question but if the apps are supposed to automatically update how come one drive is still SkyDrive on my rt but not my phone.

OneDrive is built into RT and not into WP. It will be updated at Update 1.

Unlike Windows phone, SkyDrive is not a stand alone app but it's baked into the OS. It will become OneDrive next month when Update 1 is released. This is why Microsoft is making some of the apps stand alone apps, Xbox music being a prime example, so they're easier and faster to update.
