Over 70.000 apps in Market place

There has been published over 70.000 apps now on marketplace hurra!

Of course it's worth stressing that the quantity of apps is best used only as a guideline metric. The quality of apps in an app store is also very important, but is more difficult to judge objectively.

Looking at how many times an app has been rated can provide some guidance here, as only applications and games seen as useful are likely to be downloaded and rated multiple times. In the Windows Phone Marketplace just over 6,000 apps have been rated 5 or more times (UK market); that compares to just over 4,000 apps, using the same criteria, in the middle of January. That's an increase if the proportion of quality apps from 6.6% to 8.5% of the Windows Marketplace.

That's great. There's still lacking the apps people care about, is getting frustrating.

I think there may be something the community can do about that, but we need to wait to see how much fanfare there is about Windows8 in the media next week.

M, But lumias release in the us next month Will hopefully speed up that... Wp7 has done alot better in europe since 800 release...

Btw what big apps are missing? Wordfeud, tv.nu, doodle jump and spotify already exists...

When it comes to apps like imstagram well they arent out on android either so i wouldnt count on them.

Thats a lot of apps for an OS which only has 2% of the market. Shows that the developers have faith in the platform.

The following is very crude and simplistic. So not for market research/analysis use, just some basic anecdotal stuff...but it basically tries to illustrate that WP 7.5 has *most* of the commonly used apps on iPhone.

Three things. We need more news support, especially from Al Jazeera, Reuters, Forbes, etc. Second, we need additional bank apps, especially from Canada (RBC, TD, BMO, etc). Finally, damn having Nokia makes a huge difference! Nonetheless, of this list, there are 5 apps that aren't just there on WP7.5 for one reason or another... But to be honest, I think most users wouldn't mind letting those particular apps go, unless they just want iOS. Android users will like their Google services just like WP users will like their Live Tiles, and iOS with Siri.

Some things won't be negotiated. However, for the person who is new to smartphones, or just doesn't care, I don't think apps will be a problem.

I wouldn't be surprised, Windows 8 (esp tablets) will probably be 'big'...but even the app situation with WP7 as of right now isn't that bad. When you look into it, I think it seems a little comfortable to be honest, and shouldn't at all be a problem for your regular user.
