I've noticed recently that my phone doesnt vibrate at all. In fact I cant actually remember it ever vibrating since I got it 3 months ago! Is this a common problem?

First, I'm going to assume you're running Windows 8.0 and have not upgraded to the developer preview (8.1)...

I've not heard of anyone having this problem. Your phone should currently be using the black firmware, which you can verify in the extras + info setting (near the bottom of the settings pile). As I recall, the Black firmware update turned off haptic feedback as the default (where the phone gives a slight vibration when you navigate). You can turn this on in the touch setting (restart required).

Vibration replaces ringing when the volume is turned all the way down and displays as wavy lines (I once saw it described as bacon because it resembles 3 strips of bacon...). This can also be set off/on in the settings > ringtones + sounds.

If after checking all these settings, you still have no vibration function (btw if you power off the phone, you should feel a slight vibration then also), then something is broken...

Thanks, I can feel the haptic feedback, though it's very mild.

Does it not vibrate when you have the volume turned up then?

Do you have Vibrate On in the Rings + Sounds? It should vibrate when the phone rings (I suspect they added that feature so that if you're in places where there's too much noise to hear your phone ring...)

Just tested it. When the volume is turned to 0 it vibrates when someone is calling. When the volume is above 0 it only vibrates for a couple of seconds before the ringtone starts. It doesnt vibrate as it rings.

It's working properly. You don't want it vibrating off a table if it rings for a long time. Not to mention how that eats battery life...

Vibrate has been hit or miss for me for several months, too. I'm running the 8.1 preview, but I've had vibration issues since before I upgraded... sometimes notifications and calls will react normally with the correct vibration (short-long, short-long, pause, repeat for calls; single/double/triple vibration for various notifications). Sometimes notifications will trigger a vibration that will be cut short, and sometimes the phone will not vibrate at all. This all happens sporadically without ever changing the settings.

Sometimes I've been able to get vibration back on track with a reset, or with a full charge, but recently it's just not working at all. I had the phone in my hand just a few minutes ago and my wife called, and there was absolutely no vibration. I've gone through this thread and checked the Touch settings as instructed, even toggling them and restarting twice. I guess we'll see what happens.

I'm having this same problem. I have a 920 with AT&T in the US and I'm running the Dev Preview WP8.1 with Update 1. Everything was working fine until yesterday when I updated to the newest version of Xbox Music. Right after this the phone doesn't vibrate at all, not when in vibration mode and I get a call or text, or even with the haptic feedback with the front buttons. I've turned off and on the haptic feedback in the settings, reset the phone a bunch of time (including a soft reset)....nothing. It's like the vibration is completely turned off no matter what I do.

I really don't want to have to hard reset the phone but I have no idea what else to do.

Some people have had problems with the motor failing in the 920. If software fixes don't work, that may be the problem, especially in the case of a sudden failure. I know it's a tough, reliable phone, but even rocks break.
