Preferred Beta Distribution Method or platform?

What seems to be the preferred method of distributing betas?

Creating a seperate "app" hidden from searching and distributing direct links or promo codes seems annoying from the dev perspective

HockeyApp is nice for me as a dev to deploy, but far from seemless on the beta tester's end (many have complained about the install process)

Do you guys have other options you prefer? Thoughts on how to streamline the whole process? Is there some fancy feature I missed? :sweaty:

Whatsapp beta was on invite only basis until very recently -that's the first case I can think of
Some others like facebook were an open beta - available to all who searched in store

Yes, I understand they deployed betas via a 2nd app and made them hidden etc. What do you as a developer think about this methods vs some other side-loading method?
