Pricing: Locked vs Unlocked

Is there any difference in price? Work pays for my monthly phone contract, but I just bought the Lumia 900 6 months ago. Not sure how welcoming they will be to upgrading my phone through the carrier so soon even if I pay at this point (waiting on official pricing first).

I may be better off buying the phone 3rd party. Is there typically a price difference of unlocked vs locked? I'd imagine carrier locked may be cheaper?

Prefer the Lumia 920, but sounds like it will cost more and HTC is offering $175 on the Lumia900 via their trade up program. The 8x seems just as good minus a few features.

You can easily add $300-400 for unlocked, though I have seen close to $500 more.

You must be joking. Your carrier subsidies it that's why its so cheap. The full price is generally above 500.

I agree. it's also worth it to check prices at NewEgg, MobileCityOnline and eBay, but Amazon seems to be the best place right now.
