Project spartan media streaming

Can anybody tell me does project Spartan support .mkv ( I think ) online streaming for smartphone..
I tried on internet explorer,it said invalid source..
Tried on Google chrome(android), it worked.
(was streaming live ipl matches on smartcric.com )..

I was able to stream some videos (mostly series --> vidto..), but keep in mind that Spartan doesn't support flash
