purchasing a demo phone 920

Is it advisable to but a retail demo phone on the cheap from a retail outlet. Does it do the same thing as the brand new one?

A friend of mine had a retail demo version of the Samsung ATIV S and couldn't use it as it was a demo version.
I believe certain features wouldn't work and it would display videos/adverts.
Also facebook was set as a test account and couldn't be altered.
I think the Samsung can be reflashed but I'm not sure about the Nokia 920.
