Question about 8.1

I was wondering, will my Lumia 1020 get this new 8.1 update or is it for new handsets that are to be released?

Don't worry. All WP8 will get WP8.1 update sooner or later. However there may be a developer preview program for WP8.1, if you want earlier access (probably 2nd week of April) bypassing regular update process.
