Question about purchasing 2520

I apologize if this question had already been answered. I'm would like to purchase the red 2520 from Verizon without a data plan, but when I try to order one it doesn't give me that option. It says it's required to pick a data plan. I was under the impression that you could buy it without a data plan. Is that possible?

Where are you ordering it from? Verizon or Microsoft? You are selecting full retail price correct? not the subsidize price?

Verizon, Microsoft is sold out. The rep guy said you had to buy it with a data plan and then you can cancel it. Does that sound right?

If you are close to a Microsoft Store, or Verizon-owned location I'd give them a call to check stock. The Microsoft Stores around me had stock this morning, and so did the VZW locations when I pretended to do in-store pickup. I'm in Seattle, so YMMV.
