I purchased a surface rt a few days ago.
After setting up the tablet, I proceeded to create a Recovery drive in a 8 GB USB.
No problem so far.
Here is a "newbie" question.....
Since then I had installed a few apps, and close to 100 updates.
If I create another Recovery USB, will this one be a "more up to date " version, or will this one be the same as the one I did on day one ?
To put it another way, will this "new Recovery USB" contain all the Windows already installed ?
Thank you.

Even though I have zero experience with recoveries (because I never had the need for them), there's some things that appear to be pretty logical to me:

1) Apps and settings are synchronized through the cloud. Since having a huge bunch of apps included in a recovery (which is never a full backup in the first place) would dramatically increase the size, hence require a rather large USB mass storage device. That makes it highly unlikely that these are included in the recovery.

2) recoveries are usually only system files that are needed to reinstall an OS. I've never seen any recovery include user related files like images, documents, music or even applications and their data.

3) if you'd perform yet another recovery, it would likely include the latest updates, but that's about it.

I have another question.....Refresh option.
Is it an equivalent to System Restore in the full Windows version ?
Supposing I do a Refresh today, I know my files etc will not be altered.
But, what about the Windows Updates that have been installed ?
Will they stay put or do I have to reinstall them ?

You will have to reinstall after you have successfully performed the refresh.

You will have to reinstall after you have successfully performed the refresh.

Thank you.

That is why I lamented in the other thread of mine the lack of provision to create System Image Backup.
System Image Backup will allow me to "roll back " to the date the system backup was created, thereby I won't have to reinstall all the updates like Refresh requires.
One member said system image backup was not necessary in RT, he didn't know what he was missing.
Well, that is RT. No point to whine about it.
