my dad has a BB and is lusting after my redfly. He is a crackberry tho and refuses to switch to WM. is there going to be support for BB's anytime soon?

Seriously, it is sometimes hard to believe that it was only 10 months ago that we first released the REDFLY with support for just 6 Windows Mobile phones. Since then we have introduced 2 new models and with a couple of additional software releases now support nearly 60 phones. And we are hard at work on creating several new products like the ones we demonstrated at CES in January. The REDFLY Smartphone Dock and a version of the product for Android phones are just two of the projects we are hard at work on right now. Ultimately we want to rule the mobile world and provide REDFLYs for every major operating system out there. It is just a matter of time and priorities!

But perhaps you might want to consider setting aside some money now for a Christmas present for your Dad...

Just an additional question; Is there a timeline for support of other platforms? I am coming up on time where I can upgrade my phone. So far the Blackberry Bold and the Iphone are my leading candidates with the Iphone at the top slot (screen size; I'm an avid ebook reader). Yet I find myself considering staying with a WinMob phone I don't want just to get continued use out of my Redfly.

So some idea of when other platforms will be in development/available might help.

I have a friend who is starting up his own consulting firm and before I could get to him; he bought a "crackberry". I showed him the Red Fly and he was enamored with it as soon as he saw it. Is there a chance I could get him on the beta test program when the time arrives?

Bill, that's proabably as close to a timeline as you're going to get out of Laurie. Actually, it's far, far more than I was expecting. I ask many company executives questions like this all the time, and a typical respose is some polite version of "no comment".

When I bought my Redfly I had the Touch Diamond. There was not a working driver at the time. My company switched me to a Blackberry (Storm). Needless to say I have not actually used my Redfly yet. Major bummer!!! It sits in the closet, I pull it out every once in a while to just look at it. I refuse to sell it because I hope Celio can get a driver working on it.

I am thinking that the Blackberry OS must be difficult if Android work has been put a head of Blackberry. Blackberry is well ingrained in the business world and would seem to have more potential for Redfly sales but hey, I am just being greedy and want to use my Redfly.

I have a feeling I'll have to stop using mine soon. I love my Tilt, but I'm feeling the tug of the Iphone. :shake:

For targetting the business world, I would have expected the order to be

BlackBerry (for its popularity in the US)
Symbian S60
Windows Mobile
iPhone
Android

But it seems volume sales are not the only driver right now.

Well, for me, there's several reasons, but at the top of the list it's the larger screen and MP3 player. From day one I've had to squint at my Tilt and whenever I play back music it has a tapping noise in it several times per song.

The only three things from WinMob I'll miss will be Mobipocket, RDP and my Redfly.

you would be amazed how many business men use windows mobile....and personally i like it more on the fly. more desktop like. but yes, i would think blackberry would be a priotity over android. i mean, android has 1 mediocre phone and blackberrys are everywhere. as i said above, my dad is super iinterested in redfly for him and possibly his company but he isnt going to switch his company or himself to WM just for a redfly. i wowuld have thought BB support would be next in line...

Winmo and Android are VERY open platforms and can be easily written for and installed with little or no approval from anyone. BB is very closed and proprietary, iPhone will not do it as ATT will b!tch, and Symbian is in its own little java world.

I see the arguments above and they make sense, and I imagine if they have any sense Celio is hard at work there. But Winmo was the obvious first choice and I see Android following mostly out of shear ease of code-writing and integration.

We think all our customers are brilliant (they bought a REDFLY afterall!) but mknollman seems particularly bright.

I understand mknollman's analysis -- and liked Laurie's comment -- but I have to comment that it's not just in the business world that BlackBerry is so important.

At today's faculty meeting -- I am a professor of information systems -- I had several of my colleagues ask about my REDFLY. They seemed intrigued, but almost all of them have some type of BlackBerry -- as do my dean and the college president.
