Alright, so this is basically a cross post from the Icon forum, but....

I have an option to switch from an Icon to an M8...I love my Icon, they just don't have any replacements for Icons. As you guys own the phone, what is your opinion. Just heard T-Mobile discontinued the M8 online...is this a sign of an M9 to come? Should I try and squeak by on the faulty Icon for a little longer?

Side note....
1. How bad is the camera? No 4k video...correct? Is there a quick camera shortcut like holding volume up on the lock screen?
2. I heard rumors of the Lumia Camera coming to the M8...anyone else hear this? I love the 3 second movie that is shot with the picture.
3. Even if W10 never officially comes to the device (I understand it should) can you install Preview or Windows Insider?
4. How do you feel about the on screen navigation vs dedicated buttons?
5. Anything else I should know about?

Thanks for the opinions everyone....you guys are amazing.

Ok so I will go over your point in order.

1. The camera is good, its lacking resolution but its complicated being it captures two images. The is a thread here about peoples experience's you should read along with Daniel's review.

2. Lumia camera is coming with W10 for all devices, W8.1 I don't know if it is coming or not.

3. W10 is not yet available for the M8 officially, those that forced it regretted it. HTC committed to two years of updates, but without confirming W10 specifically. I think it would be fair to expect it but in a longer lead time than Lumia.

4. I love them! No more accidentally hitting the search button all the time.

5. You get the IR blaster and awesome speakers.

MS hasn't helped you here thou, the smart move is honestly holding out for new hardware but how long is a piece of string?

The lack of dedicated buttons is the best thing about this phone. That, and its solid build and battery life. 😊

As far as I know, the only shortcut is to put the camera option in the notification center. You don't need to unlock your phone (if you have a password on it) to get the notification center to open and hit the camera button. Might not be as quick as a physical button, but I can do it pretty quickly.

It funny the absolute havoc the camera on the M8 seems to cause. The M8 has some serious haters for no reason that I can really find. I was considering holding on until the M9 came out, but the camera on that doesn't seem to have amazing reviews either.

Have any of you had issues with it overheating or general bugs? Some other forum members have mentioned it in the Icon thread.

Once again, thanks for all your feedback, it means a lot.

Side note....and I am not a normal browser of NPU, but apparently they are reporting on a supposed 940. This is the phone I am really looking for. :/

The only bugs I've suffered are WP related and nothing to do with the M8. Thou there was some early threads about overheating, I think this was on the Verizon version prior to an update before Christmas. I've not seen anyone mention it since and my AT&T version is fine. It obviously gets warm gaming but nothing out of the ordinary.

No overheating or other flaws so far. Build quality is phenomenal. The camera is not bad. It is just not quite on par with other current devices. My daughter's L830 can run circles around my M8 as far as camera quality, but the M8 works just fine for me.
