Hi guys,

So I have this app in the WP Store. It is called Split It and is a Splitwise Client for windows phone. Now since it is a 3rd party client for Splitwise, it uses their official API and the authentication happens via the OAuth protocol. As a result, splitwise prompts the user to allow the app to access his account as per the following screenshot.

Now some user has misunderstood what this meant left 1-star review on the store which goes as follows:

" ***!!! Why the heck the developer needs authority to access my acc??? "

Now if my app was popular then I wouldn't care but then mine is a relatively new app in the store and I am trying to gain traction. Also, since many users haven't left a review yet, such a review can be disastrous for a new app and push it down the charts and reduce the store visibility and overall app rating. Hence, I am asking if there is a way by which I can flag this review or ask MS to take it down/look into it? I have responded to the review but the user has never bothered to reply back.

Any suggestions? Till other user's leave reviews I cant see the overall rating going up and this can be really bad for the app :(

I feel your pain.
My overall ratings are 4~5 stars, but sometimes I get 1-star reviews from users that don't bother to find out how the app works or that say that the app is horrible but don't say why the app is horrible, so I don't know what problems to address. And there are the guys that complain, I explain how the app works, they thank me but don't change the rating. I always try to help the user, but sometimes he doesn't care.
It's a problem for new apps like ours, if we had hundreds of reviews in each region, it wouldn't be a problem, but for now, one bad review hurts the overall a lot.

I don't think you can flag a review, but you can go to your app in the store and click the button that says the review wasn't useful, but I don't think it'll do much.

These 1-star rating can indeed be a bit of a pain, especially while trying to gain traction. Bear in mind though that these ratings are region-specific. As such they are not visible on other regions. The list rankings of your app (e.g. on the 'new and rising' list) does seem to take into account the performance on other regions (to some extends) however. As such you can still rank relatively high even though you have low region-specific ratings, allowing you to recover from initially low ratings in a specific region.
The users still need to be willing to click a low-rating, but highly ranked app off course...

Yeah! I have run into these kinds of users. They are pretty annoying. Thankfully there are other understanding people who encourage you to continue the development and ignore some random foolish users. lol

I didn't know about this. Thanks for the input. This makes me feel better as the app seems to be doing pretty good in some regions :)

In the WP dashboard you should be able to respond to reviews. Whether it will work, who can tell, as user might not read at all the email from the email address of his Microsoft account. But still worth trying.

I have already sent a response to his review (mentioned that in the post). He never bothered replying.
