I've been tracking my sleep for the past few days and each day the App shows a reading for Resting Heart Rate. Although it's always shown at or near the end of sleep, I assume that it must being determined while I'm sleeping and lying down. Even though I have a normally low heart rate, mine has been pretty low: 46-48,
My question is, can this reading be used to calculate target heart rates for exercise using the Kavornen method? I'd always been told to take a reading as soon as I get up, and Wikipedia says that "the basal or resting heart rate (HRrest) is defined as the heart rate when a person is awake, in a neutrally temperate environment, and not having recently exerted himself or any form of stimulation, such as stress or surprise."
Is the HR being displayed by the App even lower or too low to use? And if so, what if anything is it useful for?
(The Band, btw, seems to be using the traditional 220 minus age in years method for determining my Maximum Heart Rate.)
