Upgrade to a Windows Phone 8 or Windows Phone 8.1 handset!

There are a wide variety of budget handsets, Lumia 520, Lumia 630/635!

Agreed. If you even remotely like your Omnia 7 you will absolutely love any WP8 device and updating that to 8.1 will seem like the best thing since sliced bread.

There is no clear cut solution since we can be looking at either a software or hardware issue.

Software? Try a soft reset (if it was present in WP7) and then try erasing all data (after backing up of course)
If the problem persists, its a hardware problem.
Hardware issue? Options are service, replacement (recommended)
