Today I received a Samsung ultra thin DVD writer for my Pro 3 (from Amazon) I plugged it in inserted the installation disk, it then ran for about 30 seconds before stopping (green light in top left corner turned off). I then tried this with another disk (Plants vs Zombies) again, it ran for about 30 seconds before stopping. I tried this with and without the charger plugged in and still the disk wont run.

Does anyone know if (and how) I can run disks without it stopping, if I can't are there any reliable (possibly cheap?) CD/DVD drives which do work with the Pro 3???

I doubt that the usb port can deliver enough power to drive an cd or dvd drive. That was my experience with the same type of drive.

I'm pretty sure you'll need to have a separate power source for most external CD/DVD drives. I own this one: Pioneer 8x External USB 3.0 QuadLayer Bluray Disc DL DVD?RWCDRW Drive Silver BDR-XD05S - Best Buy

It has a USB cable that terminates in a Y connection, with 2 female USB connections. I plug one into my SP3 and the other into a USB cable that goes to an AC adapter. I tried using it without the external power source, but it didn't function properly.

It works great now. It might be more than you need though, if you don't want blu-ray. I assume most CD/DVD drives will have this similar Y connection.
