I have a new Nokia Lumia 635. I still also have a 521. 521 is backed up and synced. I setup the 635 with a restore of everything from the 521. So far so good. I started installing apps from my account to the phone. I them went to storage sense and moved all my apps to my kingston hc 64gb sd card(this sd card had been used previously in my 521). Before moving files the phone said some previous files were found and would need to be deleted off the sd card. All but about 450mb of files were transferred to sd card except for those that the author did not support moving according to a message that popped up. Now is where it gets fun. I go to my apps and many will not even open. Some crash as soon as you tap the app. Some even said in the app list d:/windows/????. What a mess. I have formatted the sd card in pc and it formatted exFAT as the default???? So I put in the 635 phone and formatted it again. I can insert the sd card into a pc and it is readable by the windows 7 pc. I have tried a soft-reset of the phone and this did not help. Many apps that worked fine in 521 just crash on the 635 after all this.

Hard reset?? What next?? Can I start over? I thought a "feature" of windows 8.1 was apps could be on sd card and they work.

Just a question, but is the sd card in question a class 10 card? I had a similar problem on my 625 and 1520, both on the 8.1dp. The class 10 cards all work. Not sure what to suggest otherwise. A hard reset seems harsh. Format the cards in the phone. Um... Not sure what else! Good luck!

I did not use apps from sd card on 521.

That's what I thought. Seriously, you need a class 10 SD card. That's a Microsoft requirement. It's on their website, for windows phone. I believe it has to be class 10, not 6, for everything to be smooth. There was an editorial and I believe the wpcental review mentioned it also!

I set my 635 up using my Icon backup. During the setup process I chose to install everything to my SD card. Process went smoothly, only 2 apps won't open. I assume because of the small memory. Maybe you should reset and start over.

I'd suggest trying to uninstall the ones that don't work and then change the setting to install apps to the SD card before reinstalling, to see if installing them directly to the card instead of trying to move them from on-board flash helps.
