Setting up Microsoft lumia ATT 640 go phone for unlock

I just purchased a Microsoft lumia ATT 640 go phone from Best Buy and want to unlock in to use in Ecuador. Do I need to take out the ATT sim card in the phone first before requesting the unlock code from ATT online?

You can request it before taking out the sim card. Just make sure not to turn on the phone with the sim card in it.
