Setting up windows phone 8

I've a hotmail id and a gmail id linked to my microsoft account. Which one should I use? None of the two is active as I just created just for the sake of creating one. Is it wise to use the gmail (Microsoft id)?

Use the Hotmail ID to get full functionality of the phone.

If you have a Microsoft account go with the Microsoft one. That way if you have a Windows 8 desktop, you'll be able to take advantage of calendar and music syncing.
