I bought my son a Shadow for x-mas. Very nice device.

He's 17 and doesn't do email or internet that much away from home. Big text messaging person. He's had unlimited texts for a couple of years now. We did not select a data plan, so he's limited to surfing via the wi-fi at home. He'll be going off to college next year and his university has 90% wi-fi covereage all across campus. I'll probably upgrade him in August though as I think his use of email is going to rise significantly at school.

He's pretty stoked about it, coming from a Razor. Big upgrade. He sync'd it when he got it and it grabbed all his contacts from Outlook Express. He's having to manage his resources somewhat in order to keep the battery life reasonable, but that's an issue with any smartphone I've played with.

Construction is quite solid. The slider part is flawless feeling. Back has the rubberized coating. Nice touch. Camera is reasonable, but not earth-shaking. I don't buy a phone because of the camera.

I'm so impressed with it that I'm probably going to upgrade to a shadow from my Blackberry 8700g. I have a hard time reading the small letters on the blackberry keyboard. The Shadow has the two letters per key function that my son says is excellent with the XT9 software. But, more importantly for my 46 year old eyes, I can read the font size on those keys easily. I used to have a 7100 BB that had the same layout on the keypad. Never had an issue with it.

The screen is big and easy to see. Normal fonts are pretty good for my eyes. There is a large font selection that is actually too large. I wish there was a way to select some point in between.

The t-mobile/microsoft interface is pretty nice. We do the My faves here at our house and it really does keep my bill low since most of us only talk to the same 5 folks over and over.

Phone is relatively small. I was out today checking out the ATT Tilt and the Veriszon/Samsung I760. Both phones were really nice. Were either offered by TMO, I'd probably get one of them. I just don't really want to switch carriers. I've had a lot of positive experience with TMO. I wish they'd get a blockbuster pocket pc phone. The Wing doesn't feel right in my hands for some reason. The Blackberry curve is nice, but I have the same issues reading the keys on the keyboard. too small and I end up mis-typing a lot.

I'm holding out some hope that TMO announces a killer WM phone by end of January. If not, I'll get the Shadow.

I think it's all about setting reasonable expectations. They are not promoting this Shadow as a mobile PC. I think you have to give props to TMO for not overselling the Shadow. Sure, it's a smart phone running some form of windows mobile underneath. For people that want a Tmobile business set, they point them to the blackberry curve or the Wing.

All that said, battery life could be better on the Shadow, but someone will come out with a larger battery at some point and that will help. But, when you compare the Shadows battery life to a lot of other smartphones out there, it isn't *that* bad.

I *adore* the shadow. Once you get used to suretype it's a great and sexy little device. I love the size and I love the slider action.

I will admit that I ended up not using the Neo interface after awhile.

Battery life isn't great, that's true, but as long as I leave bluetooth, beam, and WiFi off most of the time it gets me through the day.

I got one a couple of days ago for myself. Got it synced up to my work email and both my home emails. Got my 1500 or so contacts in there. All was well for the first day. Day two I ended up using it while driving, mostly phone mode, but occassionaly pulling up a phone number from the contact list.

I had enough trouble with the contrast on the screen while in my truck. Sunny day outside and I coul dbarely read the screen. since I drive a lot for my job, the Shadow is going back.

Other than that and the battery hog factor, it is a very nice phone. I found a guy here locally that has a TyTN 2 that he wants to sell. I think I'm going in that direction. Especially once he showed me the business card scanning feature. That was slick.

the tytn II is sweet but if you didn't like the shadow's contrast in sunlight OR its battery life, you might be in for some more pain..

let us know what you end up with!
