My wife's 520 died and needs a new phone. As luck would have it, her point and shoot died as well (still has her DSLR). So I've been looking for a new Lumia for her to hopefully replace both.

We are on T-mobile. I was looking hard at 920/925's on ebay and local classifieds going for around $170 used. I just found a guy with a (supposedly) one month old 1020 for $320 factory unlocked.

My question is this: is the 1020 worth over $100 more than a 920/925? Are the photo aspects really that much more awesome?

My brain is trying to justify the extra money by saying I'm replacing her phone AND her point and shoot - but am I really gaining that much with the 1020 over the 920? Do people that have used both feel the 920's camera is "good enough" for the money?

Help sway me either way. I'm going crazy

So the 1020's lag issues with photos I've seen mentioned is exaggerated? I've never actually played with one...

I had the same decision to make. Go to an ATT store and look at the models. Compare how they function.

You should go for 1020 if you are looking for replacing your cam + phone. If its just to replace 520, you might see it a wonderful replacement, but if you wife is going to use it, may be other case :-)

I never had any issues with my 1020. I'm onto a 1520 now, but I liked my 1020 a lot.

The 1020 definitely takes its time between shots, but it is worth it.
Sticking with mine, hopefully until a 1030 shows up.

Is it the one on KSL.com?
I'd jump on that...

Hi, i bought the Lumia 1020 as well unlocked yesterday, New 350?.

I haven't shot many Photos yet (about 30 and 2 HD videos) But those Photos i took, blew my mind. I knew from the beginning that the 1020 has a fantastic camera, that was my reason why i bought it. To be honest, the quality of the Photos has more than exceeded my expectations. I have shown the photos i took to familymembers and friends and zoomed in, to the photos, the photos are crystal clear no noise whatsoever. Needles to say they were all very impressed by the camera.

Other than the camera. Well, i'll be honest, i was a bit disappointed that i couldn't transfer my raw photos to my iMac, but im still looking for a solution, and i'm sure there is one. But that isn't a negative point since i'm sure most people with a lumia have a windows pc. And the OS, well, since you said your wife already owned a lumia, therefore a windows phone, i don't have to add my opinions about the OS :-)

TLTR. The camera crushes every other smartphone camera and most compact digital cameras into the ground. Well worth the upgrade IF the reason would be the camera.

EDIT: i just read that you got it. Congrats. then :-) Maybe you can give us some of your impressions later, since you wasn't sure at the beginning.

Let us know when it arrives. I've had a Lumia 1020 for about a week and just got WP 8.1.1 DP. It runs great so far.
