Should I or should I not update to 8.1 developer preview?

So I've been debating updating to 8.1 and a couple things have kept me from updating
-Voiding my warranty
-some bugs on 8.1, especially regarding xbox music
I am a patient man, however I am concerned about getting the update at too late of a date since I am on Verizon with a Nokia Lumia 928, so from other Verizon Windows Phone users, tell me is it worth it updating now?

As a fellow Verizon customer, I will give you my personal opinion.

No.

True, Verizon is slow with the updates. That is because they test more than any other carrier. My HTC 8x on Verizon was the last of the model to get the third update, or GDR3. I read post after post of At&t and T-Mobile users who had issues. I was glad I waited, as Verizon's update was smooth.

I choose not to void my warranty just to be the first in line. You never know when you need it.

I choose to be patient, as I advise you to be.

I actually see no real advantage to doing the developer preview unless you are just the truly impatient tech-savvy user. If you HAVE to tinker, then okay. But there is no going back to WP 8 if something weird happens on the 8.1 Developer preview. The official one will allow wiggle room. If in doubt, wait.

I love tinkering and testing so I updated right away. The new features are cool but at the cost of removal or breaking of (many) other existing features. Honestly I would deal with them all gladly, but on my particular model (HTC 8XT) there is a bug that causes random reboots and prevents me from using Wi-Fi, which is a real pain in my poor-signal area. Wish I could go back to 8.0 for that reason alone, but that notwithstanding, I still would not recommend updating to the developer preview for any sort of daily usage scenario.

I had the very common runs-hot bleeds-battery-dry problems on and off for a few weeks while I sorted out some settings and Cortana did her data mining. At this point, though, I'm having no day-to-day problems and my battery life is more than sufficient for even busy days.

The real deciding factor for you should be - Are you willing to put up with some things not working right for awhile, maybe even months, if this update doesn't go well?

I upgraded and after watching my initial flurry of problems my wife has not. She's decided it would be better to not deal with the issues than risk having an unstable or battery dead phone at times.

Once it goes OTA I'm sure she'll be all over it.

In your case, I guess I don't see the risk? You're using a Lumia, so you have their Recovery Tool and can go back to 8.0 if you begin having issues with 8.1DP right?

Those of us non-Lumia owners are the ones truly accepting the risks as we cannot go back to 8.0.

Sounds to me like you should just stay with what you got then you'll have no possible issues to worry about. I upgraded my 929 icon and couldn't be happier. I will say this about the "official" Verizon release when it finally is pushed out, anyone who thinks it will be bug free is living in a dream world. The "official is virtually guaranteed to come with its own set of issues. Not to say Verizon/MS won't eventually roll out fixes for it, they surely will, but those fixes wont be immediate. I don't use my phones for business or gaming or Xbox. Three things that are giving trouble if you read around the forums. Maybe that helps me. So install at your own risk. It is a crap shoot. I had to hard reset to get mine in order, but its fantastic now and id never want to go back.
