Silly Question... What is the proper way to silence the phone

I was wondering what is the best way to silence the phone without going into each application... For example.. i was walking into a meeting and I wanted to silence the phone without shutting it off.. There must be an easy way to do that...

I also use quiet hours for meetings.

when u press the vol key you'd see the volume "preview". click the down arrow, and youll see different volume sliders for Ringer+notification and Media+apps (may vary when ur connected to Bluetooth or have a headphone since those have different volume profiles too).

Then just tap the bell or note icon to quickly put the phone into silent mode, you don't even need to slide the volume level. Just click those icons again, and the volume will return to previous levels.
