SP4: Fingerprint reader - what happens if keyboard is detached?

Assuming I purchase the Surface Pro 4 and the type cover with fingerprint reader, what will happen if I opt to detach the keyboard and use the Surface only as a tablet? I would hope I wouldn't need to attach the keyboard first, use the reader, and then detach the keyboard. Then again, if a stranger could bypass the fingerprint reader just by detaching the keyboard, it isn't providing much security. I'm not sure which would be the worse scenario. Looks like a great device, but I'm confused on this point.

I'm assuming you could still use Windows Hello with facial recognition through the camera on the SP4.

Or it would simply ask you for your password on sign in.
