Special Function Key Shortcuts Don't Work on Type Cover for Pro 3

The title is pretty self explanatory. I have the Surface Pro 3 and the type cover for the Pro 3. The special function keys have not been working properly for sometime. They worked fine for the longest, but all of the sudden quit working. Turning up or turning down the brightness on the keyboard, muting the volume, bringing up search tool, bringing up settings, etc.

Anyone have this issue that can help me get it fixed?

Have your tried CAPS+FN? (to toggle back and forth from the function keys (F1,F2,F3,...) and the special keys)
Have you tried physically removing the type cover?
Or uninstalling it from device manager (Keyboards: Surface Type Cover Filter Device, System devices: Surface Cover Telemetry).
Or "refresh" your system (keeps your files, but brings system almost back to factory)

You probably have the first issue that Guzzler3 was talking about, I had the same issue a couple of days ago

The root cause was what we call "fat fingered it"

Thanks for this. I was just about to start a thread about this very question. Noticed it since yesterday. That why I love this community. The first suggestion worked for me. Why does this happen?
