Split system partition

My laptop came preinstalled with Windows 10 and two partitions on the HDD - the system partition and the recovery partition. So now I'm wondering if can I split the system partition into two smaller partitions without reinstalling Windows and will that cause any problems? I'd use the (reduced) system partition for software and the third (new) partition for personal data, such as pictures, movies, etc.

Try shrinking the partition in Windows Disk Management, or use a third party partition tool, minitool partition wizard for example.
